Dr. Bernard Scott, LICSW, Psy.D
Dr. Bernard Scott, LICSW, Psy. D, is an African American male, accomplished clinical social worker and psychotherapist with a profound connection to his Boston and Southern roots (Georgia). Born and raised in the Roxbury neighbourhood of Boston, Dr. Scott is the descendant of African ancestors who arrived in the United States as slaves. His parents were part of the African American great migration of the 1960s, leaving the Jim Crow South for greater opportunities and a chance to escape systemic racism by moving North. Despite these aspirations, Dr. Scott still experienced the reality of racial injustice, witnessing and experiencing the turmoil and unrest during the desegregation of Boston PubLic Schools in 1974 a period that left a lasting impact on the Roxbury community’s emotional and mental well-being.
Growing up in the CharLame Park Homes, Dr. Scott’s earLy life was shaped by his famiLy’s commitment to progress and perseverance; his father worked his entire life at Northrop Grumman Aerospace and Defense Company, while his mother devoted herself to raising their family. After graduating from Boston Technical High School, Dr. Scott pursued higher education at Boston University and continued on to earn a graduate degree from Simmons University, both in Boston. In 1996, he achieved his Clinical License and completed his Doctor of PsychoLogy degree, marking the start of a distinguished professional journey.
Dr. Scott has contributed extensiveLy to the field of mental health, working as a therapist in multipLe clinics across Boston and Brockton, including Roxbury Community Health Center, Whittier Street Neighborhood Health Center, Codman Street Health Center, Uphams Corner Neighborhood Health Center, and Pyramid Builders Mental Health. His expertise also led him to academic roles as a psychology professor at local colleges, and he advanced to leadership positions such as Clinical Director and Program Director at agencies serving incarcerated youth. His dedication is evident in his service to individuaLs and families facing diverse chaLlenges, from incarceration to homelessness, and his leadership as Mental Health Director at centers in Boston and Brockton.
Throughout his career, Dr. Scott has shared his knowledge with future professionals, providing clinical training and supervision for interns from prestigious institutions such as Boston University, Boston College, Wheelock University, Salem State University, UMass Boston, and Bridgewater State University. His commitment to mentorship and education has strengthened the broader rnental health community in the Boston area.
With a wealth of personal and professional experience, Dr. Scott founded Arnani Psychotherapy & Counseling Inc. to address the ongoing need for culturally competent mental health services. His practice is dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey toward heating, helping them address the lingering effects of childhood and adult trauma, and empowering them to achieve Lasting mental peace and well-being.
